KAREN: I bet that’ll end up on the ground.
ME: No, I think he’s going to eat it.
KAREN: A batch of cookies says you’re wrong.
ME: You’re on.
We watched him anxiously. He stopped at times and watched us with a confused look on his face.
He picked up the noodle...then put it down. He picked it up again and moved it toward his mouth and...then he moved it away. Then suddenly he held it out over the floor, which made me very nervous. I said, “NO!!” and Karen laughed hysterically. Rich kept watching us. He brought the noodle back to his tray area, holding it still. Karen and I both laughed. He kept his eyes on us and brought the noodle toward his mouth, then pulled it away again. Then, in an instant, he held it over the floor again and dropped it. We laughed and laughed and laughed, and Richie remained confused. I now owe Karen a batch of cookies.
hahahaha! I loved reading this! As you told the story, I could see it all unfolding...not sure who to cheer for...it looks like with a batch of cookies, you are both winners. Oh, I wish I could know what little Rich was thinking as he watched the two of you!
ReplyDeleteI know! He looked so confused, but his movements said he knew exactly how to play us. And since we'll probably end up making cookies together, I guess it's not a total loss.
