Rich always knows what he wants

Not long after getting home from our walk this afternoon, Rich crawled over to the stairs and, as he always does, looked back to see if we were following him. When he made eye contact with me, he squealed (like he always does) and bolted up the stairs. I followed him all the way to the top (again, very normal). Usually when he gets to the top he heads straight for the trash can right outside his bedroom door. If he doesn’t go there, he heads into the bathroom or his bedroom. But this time—happy and squealing as he was—he went full speed right past the trash can and the bathroom door and on toward our bedroom. I followed him all the way to the pack-and-play, where he stopped. He put his hand on the pack-and-play and paused. I said, “Okay, if you want to...” and hoisted him up and over. He sat there, so I gave him his binky. I said something like, “If you want to take a nap, you can.” He rolled over, so I left the room. No crying, nothing.

Typically, he doesn’t like being in the pack-and-play because he wants to get out and move around. But he knew exactly what he wanted and went right for it. When I visited him a few minutes later, he was sleeping. In fact, he slept for an hour and a half and I didn’t even get to see him awake again before going to campus for my job.

  1. That is so amazing. So was it near his regular nap time?

    1. It was close. Maybe half an hour off or something. But we had just gone on a walk and he was so happy and energetic right up until he reached the pack-and-play. I must have worn him out on the walk, I guess.

  2. I was so confused when you came back downstairs without Rich.

    But he slept really well.

    Love that (smart) boy.
