The day the earth rotated off its axis

was the day I got laid off, Karen came down with mastitis, and McKay got a job offer in Portland. Which of these things is not like the others?

We're very excited for McKay to start working for Cambia. And it sounds like they are thrilled. McKay called and wanted to know what I thought of Portland (because we both know he's probably my "in" to the industry), and I definitely approve. That's about three years out, but it'll come quickly, I'm sure. (I know nothing about Portland, by the way.) Here's hoping my career as an actuary just got a little closer.

  1. I am so glad you have this blog...because...this will be so good for your children to read someday. Richie is not aware of any of the struggles you are going through to get where you want to someday for the benefit of your family. All he will know is he lives in a nice house and his Dad makes good money. It will look easy to him and his siblings. But then you can point him back to this blog and it will be empowering....he will see that his Dad was capable of doing hard things --- and this will make him realize he can do hard things too.

    1. I think my personal journals will be the best way for Rich to learn what his dad was going through. I still write in my journal every day. But hopefully this blog will provide some insight at a glance, yes.

Mostly, the first several years of our marriage should teach our children that miracles do happen.

    2. I could transfer to OSU, which is about an hour and 45 minutes away, but the cost of my education would increase drastically....And let's remember who's leaving who here.

  3. Hmmm...which one is not like the others? Do I get more than one guess? How about more than two guesses?

  4. Oh no! I had plasma mastitis about a year and a half ago in the area surrounding three fibroadenomas. IT. WAS. NO. FUN. Poor Karen!! I have also been unemployed - also NO FUN. I am so happy for McKay and McKenna, but my first thought when I read the news was: Portland is too far away from Tyler! Hopefully Karen feels better soon and jobs start coming your way.

    1. Fortunately for Karen, an antibiotic has almost completely solved the problem. She felt a little better by Tuesday morning and has only been getting better since then. But oh man, I'm sorry to hear about that. (At least you can say it's a year and a half ago?)

Portland will be too far for frequent visits, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that I can eventually get a job with Cambia as well.
